Rate This Board By Greg Callaham

Rate This Board allows a billboard designer to rate a random piece of billboard artwork using the following scale: 1 (not good), 2 (below average), 3 (average), 4 (very good), 5 (great). Then the designer talks about what they may have done differently for outdoor advertising. This week’s rating is by Greg Callaham (www.gregcallaham.com) who has 30 years of experience in outdoor advertising design.  Insider has used and endorses Callaham’s services.

Zip Recruiter

Rating: 3 (Average)

  • The blue portion of this ZipRecruiter design does a solid job of communication the logo and slogan.
  • The text in the color bar across the bottom is barely legible, especially while driving. It appears to be warm and fuzzy for UCLA, but how warm and fuzzy is it really if the target audience cannot read it?  Perhaps they tried to straddle the difference between a ZipRecruiter ad and a UCLA ad. Such a strategy is rarely successful.
  • The most effective OOH ads do one thing and they do it well.
  • The upper three-quarters of this board earns a 3 (average). The bottom part gets a one.
