Rate this board by Greg Callaham

Rate This Board allows a billboard designer to rate a random piece of billboard artwork using the following scale: 1 (not good), 2 (below average), 3 (average), 4 (very good), 5 (great). Then the designer talks about what they may have done differently for outdoor advertising. This weeks rating is provided by Greg Callaham www.gregcallaham.com) who has 30 years of experience in outdoor advertising design.  Insider has used and endorses Callaham’s services.

Odd Mom Out – Rating 1 (not good)

  • Here’s the pitch…swung on and missed. I understand that it’s supposed to look like a make-up ad, but it is very easy to miss the woman eating French fries instead of applying lipstick. She simply blends in too well. So what are we advertising here? Something Odd and Out? Was that a Bravo logo? Maybe it’s a new television show. These are the thoughts I imagine going through the minds of drivers as they pass this board.

  • The small text at the top distracts instead of informs.

  • The photo is too subtle for the medium. The title of the show only contrasts with the background two-thirds as well as it should in order to be legible.

  • The size of the time, day, and logo is iffy, while the medium grey background color does nothing to help this billboard catch the eye of the target audience. It earns a 1 (not good).
