Rate This Board by Greg Callaham

Rate This Board allows a billboard designer to rate a random piece of billboard artwork using the following scale: 1 (not good), 2 (below average), 3 (average), 4 (very good), 5 (great). Then the designer talks about what they may have done differently for outdoor advertising. This weeks rating is provided by Greg Callaham www.gregcallaham.com) who has 30 years of experience in outdoor advertising design.  Insider uses and endorses Callaham’s services.

Matecjeks – Rating 5 (great)

  • I am a huge fan of unusual outdoor and on-site signage. Here we have both. The advertiser has guaranteed their selling messages will get noticed by building their own billboard at their tractor dealership complete with life-size tractor-type vehicle up in the air next to the billboard. This was expensive, but they will see the return on this investment for years and years to come.

  • I’m presuming the vinyl will be changed out at least once a year if not sooner (don’t go cheap now!). The only thing I might change would be to enlarge the logo and phone number a bit more. Even though drivers cannot help but look at it, they still need the ability to read it easily. That’s an easy adjustment on the next vinyl print and I have no idea how close this might be to the viewer, so I won’t count points off. Congratulations to the designer, the steel crew, the advertiser, and the outdoor company! You earned a stellar 5 (great).
