Mt Airy backs off draconian billboard rules.

mt airyThe Mount Airy News reports that the town council has backed off draconian billboard rules.  The controversial provisions which were removed included:

  • 7 year amortization for non-conforming signs
  • a 1,000 foot spacing between billboards
  • a 35 foot height restriction on billboards

Insider’s take:  The billboard companies were smart to have local businesses at the meeting to make the point that billboard advertising was important to their existence.   Kudos to Jim Troy of Toby Outdoor for getting involved as well.  We’ve featured Jim’s company in today’s Company of the Day Profile.
