Marci Werlinich on What To Look OUT for at the 2017 Convention

Marci Werlinich is VP of Membership and Administration at the Outdoor Advertising Association of America (OAAA). She’s spent her entire 31-year professional career serving the OAAA and its members. Marci focuses on membership recruitment, planning logistics, human resources and information technology. Marci was elected into the OAAA Hall of Fame in 2011.  Insider talked with Marci last week.

Marci, how big is OAAA staff?

OAAA has a small but dedicated staff of 12 who serve over 800 member companies. Most people are shocked to learn there are only a dozen of us given how many projects we accomplish and resources we manage at any given time.

One of your jobs is planning logistics for the May 2017 OAAA\Geopath National Convention + Expo. Why should this be on the must-do list for out of home executives?

The theme this year is Look Out, which reflects the industry’s expanding position in the larger media landscape. This annual gathering provides tremendous opportunities for those actively involved in the OOH business to connect with colleagues, customers, and friends all under one roof.

The Expo will be the center of activity this year. It’s the place you’ll find the latest technologies transforming today’s OOH business.

Geopath will also provide an OOH Ratings Training Seminar that will help to improve in-depth knowledge about OOH Ratings and provide an update on the status of MORE.

Billboard Insider’s readership consists of lots of small independent outdoor advertising companies. What at the convention will be of particular interest to this group
?

A new addition to the convention this year is the Independent OOH Media Company Seminar.  This seminar, intended for independent media company executives, will provide insights into digital billboard buildout, adding cellular antennas, vital marketing tools, and other best practices offered through peer-to-peer dialogue.

Renowned general session speakers will look at current trends in advertising and business, and Nancy Fletcher will deliver her annual industry report and plan for growth.

Nielsen will present findings from a new study about the value and effectiveness of roadside posters.

At the State Association Luncheon, members will hear about the latest updates on state and local matters, including taxes and fees and controls on issues such as vegetation, relocation, just compensation, and other enforcement issues.

And of course, networking… networking… networking… The annual convention is where new opportunities are found and partnerships are made.
Who do I contact at OAAA if I want to learn more about membership or attending the convention?

I can be reached directly by phone at 202.776.1848 or by email at mwerlinich@oaaa.org.
