Johns Creek, GA Tree Trimming Dispute

“The law is explicit. If a sign company has cut down trees in the state right of way, it is a violation of the permit. If they are indeed in violation as it appears they are, then I will bring all the resources I can to see it is revoked,”   Georgia Department of Transportation 6th District Commissioner Mark Burkhalter as quoted by Johns Creek Herald.

The Johns Creek Herald reports that Mark Burkhalter, 6th District Georgia State Transportation Board Member is attempting to have a recently constructed Clear Channel Billboard at Medlock Bridge Road and State Bridge Road removed because of illegal cutting of trees or landscaping on the state right of way.  The billboard was constructed as part of a litigation settlement after the Georgia Supreme Court rules in 2003 that the Fulton County ordinance was invalid.

Insider’s take:  Tree trimming has be a controversial issue, especially if contractors are over zealous.
