Gas Prices Stabilize Over Holiday Weekend

Motorists are paying the highest gas prices since 2014, but the good news:  the national average price at the pump held steady over the Memorial Day holiday.

The five-day national average was $2.97 a gallon, the AAA motor club said on May 29.

Oil market dynamics:

  • OPEC may increase output
  • Total crude inventories are up
  • The US added 15 oil rigs last week

Politics

Since the beginning of May, pump prices increased 16 cents on average.  Democrats are pounding the Trump White House for the rise in gas prices, a tactic employed by Republicans during Democratic administrations.
