Context: The I-71 Project

screen-shot-2016-11-03-at-9-00-16-amCincinnati has an example of art, the elections and thought using billboards with “The I-71 Project,” a joint project of the Contemporary Arts Center and the Columbus Museum of Art.

The group wanted to create something provocative yet non-partisan. The exhibit features public installations that explore the political theater staged in the battleground state of Ohio.

It includes nine billboards in Hamilton County, as well as Mel Bochner’s “Blah, Blah, Blah” construction sign sculptures in both Over-the-Rhine’s Washington Park and in two locations in Columbus. More work from Lisa Anne Auerbach, Glenn Ligon and Kay Rosen will appear through Nov. 6.

The video below provides more background and shows many of the signs.  You can also read more on the project at Cincinnati.com.
