Apple Outdoor is a full-service, locally owned and operated billboard company based in York, Pennsylvania. Apple provides billboard coverage in York and Adams Counties in Pennsylvania; and Carroll, Cecil, Frederick, Harford, Kent and Queen Anne’s Counties in Maryland.

The company was founded in 1999 and is owned by the Stewart Companies group, which has investments in building products, construction, real estate, auto dealerships and out of home advertising.  Nate Sterner is the company’s President.  Insider talked with Sterner this week.

Nate, how did you enter the out of home business?

I started working for Adams Outdoor – Lehigh Valley after graduating from Syracuse University in 1989.

In November 2017 you mentioned that Apple was going to be developing its digital presence further. 

How’s that going? It is progressing nicely, we have eleven (11) displays now, and have a few more planned.

Who’s digital signs do you use and what have you learned?

We use Daktronics, exclusively, and they have been a very good business partner to us.  We have had the good fortune of working with some very talented and helpful people on their team. It’s a common theme in the outdoor industry that these are high ROI units, but for the customer, who is our most important partner, these displays can be current, timely, flexible and provide alternative value adding another tool in their “advertising toolbox” for their varying marketing needs.
