Catalyst and Community Groups at Tree Standoff

downington-boroughPhilly.com reports that Catalyst Outdoor and Downingtown PA residents are at a deadlock over trees.  Downington is demanding that Catalyst plant a buffer of evergreen trees to prevent light from a digital sign shining into homes.  Catalyst has agreed to plant 35 trees but Borough Council members say that will not block enough light.  Catalyst is waiting to plant trees until it has the support of the Borough Council.  The trees will add $50,000 to the cost of the project.

Insider’s take:  Insider understands Catalyst’s reluctance to spend an additional $50,000 (approx 14% of the cost of the digital structure) if Downington won’t say whether this is enough mitigation.  Seems a case of letting the best become the enemy of the good. Why not let Catalyst plant 35 trees now and deal with the issue later if they don’t block enough light?
