Austin rewriting billboard code

mystatesman.com reports that Austin, Texas is rewriting billboard and sign rules as part of a large project called Codenext to rewrite the cities development code.

The project is motivated in part by the need to get the city’s code in compliance with Reed v Gilbert.

Reagan Outdoor has a pending Reed v Gilbert suit against Austin relating to the denial of 49 permits to convert static billboards to digital.

An interim sign ordinance will go to the City Council this Thursday.

Insider reported last week about Sign on Austin’s attempts to get digital billboards approved.
