Anthem Displays Enters The Digital Billboard Business

Rod_Head_ShotInsider wrote earlier this week that Anthem Displays was active at the TAB/OAAA show. Anthem is a Boulder, Colorado company that manufactures digital/LED displays for the out-of-home industry.

Anthem was founded in 2013 by Rod Rackley and Evan Brooks, both former Circle Graphics executives. Insider talked with co-founder and partner Rod Rackley. Prior to founding Anthem, Rackley was a partner and Chief Revenue Officer at Circle Graphics and SVP of Business Development for Lamar.

Rod, how did you come to work in the sign business?

I grew up in Baton Rouge, LA and actually went to high school with Sean Reilly, so I was familiar with the great reputation of Lamar and the Reilly family. After brief stints in management consulting and the family business, I was fortunate to join Lamar right before their IPO in 1995. Things got pretty busy after that, and I was fortunate to work for Bobby Switzer and Sean Reilly, two great mentors and leaders. After almost 10 years at Lamar, I 3 - poster installwanted to do something a bit more entreprenerial, so I moved to CO and joined up with a talented friend, Hank Ridless, who had just started Circle Graphics, a digital printing company. With a great team that included my current business partner and co-founder, Evan Brooks, we grew Circle from inception to over $70mm in revenue before selling the company to a PE firm at the end of 2012.

Tell us a little about Anthem and your approach to the digital sign market

Anthem Displays is 100% focused on and devoted to the billboard market. We have designed our own proprietary display technology, with unique LED modules and smart power hubs specifically tailored to the requirements of billboard operators. We provide everything you need, and nothing you don’t.

2 - simple systemWe have refactored mature display technology into a very simple and robust system. Our displays have fewer components, cables and connectors, providing fewer points of failure and simplifying troubleshooting and maintenance.

Our digital billboards feature fully redundant power delivery, meaning that if a power supply fails, it does not result in any of the LED modules going black. This is a standard feature and we’re able to do it without adding cost.

We have built out a state-of-the-art, highly automated factory, right here in Colorado. This gives us total control over quality, cash flow efficiencies, and the ability to deliver low cost product to our customers.
