American Commute Times Getting Longer

The Washington Post has a story indicating an upward trend in commute times in most major U.S. cities.  Here is a list of the top ten longest commutes.

The statistics were recently released courtesy of the 2017 American Community Survey provided by the Census Bureau.  Commute times have been on the rise nationwide since 2010.   A March 2015 report from the Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program shed light on a key factor driving the trend: As the country has become increasingly suburban, jobs have moved farther from population centers.

Insider’s Take – While the overall increase in commute times is relatively small (2.5 hours for the year) the trend of time in our cars and public transportation is definitely on the increase.  Should be considered good news for the OOH industry.
